King Seeds - Dahlia Unwins Dwarf

The real advantage of growing Dahlias from seed is that you get the best of both worlds. The first year will provide a very economical collection of delightful flowers and each plant will produce tubers that can be carefully lifted for storing and re-planting the following year.

Unwins Dwarf produces semi-double blooms in a range of bright clear colours with some bi-coloured blooms, reaching an approximate height of 50cm.

WHEN TO SOW
February to April

WHERE TO SOW
Sow in trays of moist seed compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a warm place and keep at a temperature of between 20-25°C (68-77°F)

WHAT TO DO NEXT
When the seedlings are large enough to handle, prick off into trays 5cm (2") apart. As seedlings grow, transplant into 9cm (3½") pots and gradually harden off before planting out in the flowering site from late May onwards. Space plants 45-60cm (18-24") apart.

MATURITY
July onwards

HANDY TIP
Regular removal of the dead flowers will encourage new growth, but take care not to damage new buds.
